Undergraduate Mentoring Program
Purpose:
The Undergraduate Mentoring Program (UMP) will develop a network of Alpha Pi Zeta alumni with the purpose of providing active senior members of the chapter with networking opportunities, professional mentoring, and career oriented experiences. The network will also serve as a medium for Alpha Pi Zeta to continuously engage young, professional alumni in further service to our fraternity.
Scope:
During the first year of existence, qualified senior members will be matched with local (Denver Metro Area) alumni mentors currently working in fields congruent to the career interests of individual undergraduates. In future years, a major goal of the UMP will be to cultivate alumni mentors throughout the country capable of mentoring undergraduates seeking to pursue a career in their particular community.
The national scope of this program benefits Alpha Pi Zeta in two important areas. First, the UMP enables senior undergraduate members of the fraternity access to additional career opportunities and connections. Second, the program provides an opportunity for the chapter to actively engage and cultivate support from alumni no longer living in the Denver Metro Area.
Structure:
The UMP will fall under the responsibility of the High Rho and one or more alumni co-chairs. Each year, this group will organize one alumni mentoring program per academic quarter. These events will be designed to assist senior undergraduate members pursue their career goals through a variety of activities including, but not limited too, the following: social networking opportunities, resume reviews, interviewing skills, and other general career path strategies.
An important responsibility of the UMP committee will be to monitor each undergraduate/alumni relationship. During each quarter, it will be the joint responsibility of the undergraduate and alum to facilitate time (meeting, phone call, etc) to discuss the undergraduate’s current career path. While alumni mentors are not responsible for finding employment for undergraduates, it is their responsibility to provide time and access for their undergraduate counterpart.
Launch:
The goal of the UMP, in year one, is to identify qualified undergraduate members in the senior class of 2006. Qualified members will be uploaded to the chapter web site www.denverlambdachi.org as a marketing tool to help recruit alumni mentors. Once undergraduates have been matched with alumni mentors, a launch event will be held during the spring 2005 academic quarter. Moving forward into year two, qualified members of the 2007 senior class will be integrated into the program.
Mission :
Develop a career building/mentoring network to provide upperclassmen members of Alpha Pi Zeta with networking opportunities, professional mentoring, and career development experiences. The network will also serve as a medium for Alpha Pi Zeta to continuously engage young, professional Lambda Chi Alpha alumni in further service to our fraternity.

The Committee will host career building events for the undergraduates. These events will cover career building skills, including resume design and review, interview preparation, techniques and etiquette, prospect hints and strategies and general career path discussions.

The Committee will also host periodic events to bring the undergraduates and their mentors together on a more social basis.
Additional events will include a guest speaker event featuring a panel of alumni on lessons learned in career building followed by a reception and or a DU sporting event.
